Cynthia Connolly
Secretary of the Trust

Born in Sherburn Village three miles from Durham City. Attended the village school, then transferred to Whinney Hill Girls School in Durham. Studied shorthand, typing and book keeping (no computers in those days!) at private evening classes and then full time at Durham Commercial College. Emp;loyed by Messrs. Swinburne and Jackson as a junior. Promoted to secretary for a partner and moved with him to their Chester-le-street office. Secretary to the Manager of Bickleys 1952-1955 and then worked for a firm of solicitors, Newby, Robson and Cadle in Stockton on Tees. Secretary at Bede college for four years before coming to Hatfield in 1972 to be the Master's secretary. Retired in 2000 after being secretary for Tom Whitworth, James Barber and latterly, Tim Burt. Now enjoying being involved a couple of days a week with the Hatfield Trust and continuing with the Hatfield Association administration. Service to the University recognised by the award of an Honorary M.A. in July 1999. Elected fellow of Hatfield College in 2000. Married Jim, a policeman and member of the Hatfield SCR, in 1955. Now widowed. Two children, David and Julie, and Two grandchildren Claire and Sarah. Free time is spent gardening, aerobics, pilates, step classes and swimming.
